Your First 24 Hours — The Perfect Start

1

Arrive at Cagban Jetty. Take e-trike to your hotel.

2

Check in, change into swimwear, and walk to the beach.

3

Order a coconut on the beach. First swim. Deep breath.

4

Sunset drinks. Book your island hopping tour for Day 2.

The 10 Things Every First-Timer Should Know

01

Caticlan, not Kalibo

Always fly to Caticlan (MPH) airport. It's 10 minutes from the jetty. Flying to Kalibo adds 2.5 hours of van travel. The price difference is minimal vs. the time saved.

02

Station 2 is the best first base

Station 2 has the most restaurants, D'Mall shopping, tour operators, and nightlife. First-timers should stay here to understand the island before exploring further.

03

Bring PHP cash

ATMs exist but get very long queues in peak season. Bring at least PHP 5,000 cash for your first day. Larger resort hotels accept cards; everywhere else is mostly cash.

04

Book island hopping early

Tours sell out in peak season (December–April). Book at D'Mall the day before, not on the same morning. Best departure: 9 AM.

05

The beach is free, the sun isn't

Sunscreen is essential. The Philippine sun is intense — even on cloudy days, UV levels are high. Reef-safe sunscreen only: regular sunscreen is damaging to coral and increasingly unwelcome.

06

White Beach closes at night

Swimming after dark is officially discouraged and some stretches are patrolled. Night activities = bars, restaurants, fire shows, not late-night swimming.

07

Tricycle negotiation is normal

Quote a price first. Negotiate down by PHP 20–50. Always agree before getting in. There are no meters. PHP 50–150 covers most island trips.

08

Paraw sailing at sunset is unmissable

One hour on a traditional paraw outrigger sailboat at sunset is the quintessential Boracay experience. Book it on Day 1. It costs PHP 1,200 for the boat (fits 2–4).

09

Stay 4–5 days minimum

Three days feels rushed — you'll want to come back. Five days is the sweet spot to experience the beach, do island hopping, try the nightlife, and still have slow mornings.

10

Talipapa Market for the best meal

Buy fresh seafood from the local fish market at Station 3 and have nearby restaurants cook it. Best meal on the island, and the most affordable. Do it at least once.

5 Mistakes First-Timers Make

Flying to Kalibo

Always book Caticlan (MPH). Saves 2.5 hours.

Booking for only 2 nights

Plan 4–5 nights minimum. 2 nights is never enough.

Staying indoors during sunset

Be at the beach by 5:30 PM every day. No exceptions.

Paying too much for tricycles

Always negotiate. PHP 80–120 is fair for most rides.

Skipping island hopping

The island's best experiences are off White Beach.
